About Kate
Kate Malden is a writer hailing from a busy metropolitan city in the land of snow, maple leaves, and never-ending construction. (Canada, of course!) You can usually find her sitting on the couch with her laptop or a notebook; wandering the woods with her partner (and probably carrying that notebook around with her); or staring out the window at birds, leaves, or snowflakes while daydreaming of worlds beyond this one.
My Story
From the time I was a kid, I've always had a thing for stories. I place the blame firmly on my family members, who had the terrible idea of exposing me to literature at an early age. Some of my most treasured memories are spending hours upon hours with my uncle, who read me The Chronicles of Narnia and the Coles Notes of The Lord of the Rings before I was old enough to read them myself. It instilled in me a love for epic, sweeping narratives and a hunger for the fantastical.
As life, well, happened, I fell away from writing for a long time. The COVID-19 pandemic and a well-timed teaching assignment with a creative writing class sent me careening back into the habit, and my life has been so much more beautiful ever since. A fateful (and very nerve-wracking) choice to become involved in the writing community on Tumblr.com resulted in the books you see on this website today. A special shout-out must go to my early friends and supporters over there. ✨
Writing is a journey; any writer knows this. It took a while to realize what kinds of stories I'm yearning to create, and I think I'm probably still figuring it out.
